Trainer Certification Course Preparation

There is a significant amount of preparation needed for this course. We have spaced out the days of the course so that you will have time to prepare for the upcoming assessments. We encourage you to practice the activities with family and friends to help you prepare.

Pre-Course Preparation:

Printing that must be done before the first day:

DO NOT PRINT the Assessment Forms below; instead save them to your computer:

Conflict List:

You must be ready with 4 conflicts that you currently have, or have had in the past, that were not resolved satisfactorily. Please respect everyone’s time by having these conflicts already written in the blank spaces on your agenda

Review:

Prepare for these assessments on the first day of the course.

Heart-Brain Insight Story: On the first day, you will be assessed on your ability to tell a Heart-Brain Insight Story. Pay attention in the Core Course video to how Rita Marie tells one. You each presented a story for coaching certification. Please present a different story this time since Trainers need many stories. You will have a maximum of 3 minutes to tell your story. The elements include:

  • The problem you were struggling with (don’t include feelings and needs)
  • The point at which you decided to seek an insight
  • Modeling the steps of doing Quick Coherence, asking “What do I need to know?” and listening inside
  • Sharing the insight that came, the action you took and the positive outcome

What Empathy is NOT example: You will also be assessed on teaching an example of “What Empathy is Not.” Choose a habitual response from the list on page 24 of the Core Manual that you can relate as a story from your life . You will have a maximum of 3 minutes for your story example. Be sure that you state which habitual response you are using in your story.

Prepare to practice these activities on the first day of the course.

Emotional Safety in a Small Group: You will have a practice session of leading this ESR activity followed by feedback. Prepare by practicing it with a friend and following the ESR Facilitator Guide listed above. This Guide will be used as a checklist when you are assessed on this activity on the second day. You can refer to them as you demonstrate this activity.

When the Going Gets Tough, the CP Gets More Tender: You will have a practice session of this ESR activity followed by feedback. Prepare by practicing it with a friend, following the instructions on page 20 of the ESR Manual.

You can also watch the ESR recording where Ellen and Rita Marie demonstrate this activity. You will have a maximum of 25 minutes to coach your partner when you are assessed on the second day.

Prepare for these assessments on the second day of the course.

Preparation for the Core Course assessments:

  • Demonstration Story: You will be assessed on a demonstration story of a conflict between two people that was successfully resolved using the CP. This conflict can be one between you and another person or one where you helped two people resolve a conflict. If you do not have an example like this, you can use Rita Marie’s example of Victor. You can watch Rita Marie’s demonstration of the Victor story at the link to the Core course video above. It is just after the beginning of the course. You will have a maximum of 15 minutes for your demonstration story.
  • Teachback: You will also be assessed on your teachback. You received a teachback assignment on the course agenda. You can watch Rita Marie teach that part of the course in the Core video. You will have a maximum of 15 minutes for your teachback.

Preparation for the Emotionally-Safe Relationships Course assessments:

  • Rasur Story: You will be assessed on telling the story of Rasur. You don’t need to include every detail or memorize it. Tell the essence of the story in an inspiring way. You can watch Rita Marie telling the story in this video (21:13-27:22). You can also read the story on page 16 of the ESR Manual. You will have a maximum of 6 minutes to tell the story.
