Bernice Cuauhxihuitl Aguilera Toney is with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and serves the community as the Program Manager of the South County Youth Task Force (SCYTF), a multi-agency and community partnership that is committed to youth and community transformation and hope, resiliency, integrity, voice and engagement. SCYTF works to address the effects that violence, gangs, and other trauma have on the youth in the communities of Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and unincorporated town of San Martin, California. SCYTF envisions a safe community where young people are strong, thriving and connected to their families, schools, and neighborhoods. They reach youth where they are and seek to increase the community’s access to services, support, and activities that promote the educational, social, and physical well-being of all youth and their families, while empowering their voice and supporting their growth and success. This is achieved through a focused and intentional approach that includes expanding and strengthening the continuum of care services and identifying necessary services where gaps exist. Bernice is a Aztec Dancer and holds fire with her spiritual dance group, Calpulli Tonalequeh out of San Jose, Ca., is a Restorative Justice Trainer, a Connection Practice Trainer and a circle keeper utilizing National Compadres Network curriculums such as El Joven Noble, Xinachtli and Cara y Corazon.  She supports women and female energies through life coaching and offers broader project management, trauma and healing informed trainings.  Prior to joining the District Attorney’s Office, Bernice worked with Gilroy Police Department for 5 years as the SCYTF Coordinator and prior to, worked with nonprofits for the previous 12+ years.  Bernice walks in the two realms of spiritual and every day practicality, though she brings magic in everything she does. Bernice has a bachelor’s degree in Community Studies and Legal Studies, has a Master’s in Public Administration and has had many spiritual journies thourghout the American continent. She is a student of life.
