Why Costa Rica?

Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948 and is the only country in the world with no army and no defense arrangement  with a larger country. Costa Rica’s peace story has continued to unfold and we have contributed to this process in several ways.

Inspired by the poem, Rasur or Week of Splendor, Rita Marie founded the Rasur Foundation in 1997 to make the peaceful vision of the poem real in our time. This was accomplished by implementing the Connection Practice in Costa Rican schools and initiating a Ministry for Peace bill that passed in 2009.

In 2009, Rita Marie founded Rasur Foundation International, the global sponsor for spreading the Connection Practice. Now it is headquartered at Quizur, named after the village in the poem that is transformed into a culture of peace.

Connection Practice Tour participants are hosted at Quizur courses. All proceeds from Rasur Foundation activities support our mission to empower more youth faster through the Connection Practice.

Ricardo Balderas was born in Mexico and grew up in San Jose, CA where he met Rita Marie and they married in 2019. Ricardo received his Ed.D in Multicultural Education. In his career, he served as a bilingual elementary school principal in Bay Area schools for over 30 years. He published a children’s book, The Dragon that Wanted To Play in the Snow.
